Privacy Policy for Lunvarg Last updated: June 24, 2026 This Privacy Policy explains how Lunvarg (“the App”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) handles information. Lunvarg is designed as a Moon observation, lunar planning, moon photography planning, lunar calendar, and astronomy companion app. We do not sell your data. We do not use third-party advertising SDKs, third-party analytics SDKs, third-party crash analytics, data brokers, or cross-app tracking. Most app data is stored locally on your device. Some app data may also be included in Apple-managed device backups or iCloud backups depending on your Apple ID, iCloud, device backup, and system settings. Data the App may process Lunvarg may process the following data depending on the features you use. 2.1 Local profile data The App may store: * First name * Last name * Optional profile image * Onboarding status * Terms and privacy acceptance state * App settings related to the local profile This data is used to create and display your local app profile and to keep the onboarding flow from appearing again after completion. The local profile inside Lunvarg is not a server-based account. It exists only for the App experience on your device, although Apple-managed device backup or iCloud backup may include some locally stored app data depending on your device settings. 2.2 Profile image and selected photo data If you choose a profile image, Lunvarg may access only the image you select through Apple’s photo picker. The App does not scan your full photo library. The selected image may be resized or compressed on your device and stored locally for use as your profile image. 2.3 Observer location data Lunvarg may request access to your approximate device location when you choose to use location-based lunar features. The App may use observer location data to calculate or display: * Moon altitude * Moon azimuth * Moon compass direction * Horizon visibility * Moonrise and moonset estimates * Highest Moon point * Above-horizon duration * Dark sky windows * Golden hour and blue hour Moon planning * Moon photography planning * Lunar event visibility context When location access is granted, the App may save an observer location locally as latitude and longitude so lunar calculations can continue without requesting location again every time. If location access is denied, restricted, unavailable, or technically fails, the App may use a default observer location or previously saved observer location where available. Calculations based on a default or saved location may not match your real physical location. 2.4 Saved observer locations If you use saved observer location features, Lunvarg may store locally: * Saved place name * Latitude * Longitude This data is used to let you reuse observer locations for lunar planning without repeatedly entering or requesting location information. Saved observer locations are stored locally on your device. Lunvarg does not send saved observer locations to a custom backend server. 2.5 Lunar planning and calculation data Lunvarg performs lunar calculations and planning features on your device. The App may process dates, times, selected observer location, saved observer locations, and app state to provide features such as: * Moon phase * Illumination * Lunar age * Moon distance * Apparent size * Moonrise and moonset estimates * Lunar event timeline * Lunar calendar * Yearly Moon planner * Full Moon Almanac * Dark Sky Window planning * Golden and Blue Hour planning * Moon Compass * Lunar Nodes * Eclipse Candidate Finder * Moon Photography Planner * Lunar Observatory data These calculations are used to provide educational, planning, and observation-related information inside the App. Lunvarg is not an official astronomical observatory, weather service, aviation tool, navigation tool, emergency tool, or official eclipse bulletin. Real-world visibility and event observation may be affected by weather, clouds, terrain, buildings, light pollution, device settings, location accuracy, time zone settings, calendar settings, operating system behavior, and other local conditions. 2.6 Local lunar alerts and notifications If you allow notifications, Lunvarg may use local notifications for lunar event alerts, such as Moon phase or Moon horizon-related reminders. The App does not use push notification servers and does not upload notification tokens to any custom server. Local notifications are scheduled and managed through Apple’s iOS notification system. Notification delivery may depend on your device settings, notification permissions, Focus modes, Do Not Disturb settings, battery state, operating system behavior, time zone settings, and other Apple-controlled conditions. 2.7 Subscription data Lunvarg uses Apple StoreKit for subscriptions and Premium access. Purchases, renewals, refunds, billing, taxes, pricing, currency conversion, payment methods, subscription cancellation, offer eligibility, trial eligibility, and financial transaction handling are managed by Apple App Store and StoreKit. We do not receive, process, or store your payment card information. The App may check Apple StoreKit entitlement information to determine whether Premium features should be unlocked. 3. Data we do not collect or use Lunvarg does not use: * Third-party advertising SDKs * Third-party analytics SDKs * Third-party crash analytics SDKs * Cross-app tracking * Data brokers * Selling of personal data * Push notification servers * A custom backend account system * A custom payment processor * External lunar calculation servers * External AI processing servers Lunvarg does not provide a real server-based account. The profile inside the App is a local app profile. Apple may separately process App Store, StoreKit, iCloud, device backup, diagnostics, purchase, refund, and subscription-related information according to Apple’s own privacy practices, legal obligations, and user settings. 4. How we use data We use data only to: * Provide app features * Save your local app state * Display your local profile * Store your selected profile image * Store observer location and saved places when you choose to use those features * Calculate Moon position, phase, visibility, and planning information * Schedule local lunar alerts * Verify Premium access through Apple StoreKit * Restore subscription access through Apple StoreKit * Maintain the basic reliability and continuity of the App experience We do not use your data for advertising or tracking. 5. Legal bases for processing If you are in the European Union, European Economic Area, or the United Kingdom, we rely on the following legal bases where applicable. 5.1 Contract We process data necessary to provide the App features you use, such as local profile functionality, lunar calculations, observer location features, saved observer locations, local notifications, and subscription access. 5.2 Consent We rely on your consent for optional permissions and features such as: * Selected photo access for profile image selection * Location access for observer-based lunar calculations * Notifications for local lunar alerts You can withdraw permissions through iOS Settings or inside the App where controls are available. 5.3 Legitimate interests We may process minimal app data needed to maintain local app functionality, preserve app state, prevent accidental loss of local settings, verify entitlement status, and keep the App reliable. 5.4 Legal obligations Apple may retain transaction-related data for tax, accounting, legal, financial reporting, refund, billing, and compliance obligations. This is handled by Apple. 6. Where data is stored Data may be stored: * Locally on your device * In Apple-managed device backups or iCloud backups, depending on your Apple ID, iCloud, and device backup settings * In Apple StoreKit and App Store systems for subscription and purchase handling * In Apple diagnostics systems if you have enabled sharing diagnostics with app developers in your device settings Lunvarg does not operate a custom backend server for user accounts. 7. Data sharing We do not sell your data. Data may be processed through Apple services only when needed for app functionality or system operation: * Apple StoreKit and App Store for subscriptions, purchases, entitlement checks, restorations, refunds, and billing * Apple iOS local notifications for lunar alerts * Apple Core Location for location permission and location access when you request location-based features * Apple Photos picker for selected profile image access * Apple device backup or iCloud backup systems depending on your device settings * Apple diagnostics if enabled by your device settings The App does not share your data with third-party advertising or analytics providers. 8. Payment, billing, subscriptions, and Apple services Payment processing, billing, subscription renewal, cancellation, taxes, pricing, refund decisions, chargebacks, regional pricing, currency conversion, offer eligibility, trial eligibility, Apple ID account status, Family Sharing behavior where applicable, and financial transaction handling are managed by Apple App Store and StoreKit. The developer does not process payment card details, does not store payment card details, does not control Apple’s billing systems, does not control Apple refund decisions, does not control App Store tax handling, does not control Apple subscription cancellation or renewal systems, and does not control Apple ID payment method behavior. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the developer cannot be held responsible for Apple-managed payment, billing, renewal, cancellation, refund, tax, pricing, eligibility, currency conversion, App Store account, StoreKit, Apple ID, or financial transaction processes. 9. Data retention Local app data remains on your device until you delete it, reset your local app profile, remove saved locations, uninstall the App, or erase your device. Apple-managed device backup or iCloud backup data may remain according to your Apple ID, iCloud, device backup, and Apple retention settings. Subscription and transaction information may be retained by Apple according to Apple’s own legal, financial, tax, and compliance requirements. 10. Delete local account and data reset Lunvarg includes a local delete/reset flow. This may delete or reset: * Local profile data * Profile image * Observer location stored in the profile * Onboarding state * Local profile-related app data Because the App does not use a custom backend account system, “Delete Local Account” refers to deleting the local app profile and related app data from the device. Deleting local app data may not immediately delete copies that exist in Apple-managed device backups, iCloud backups, or other Apple-controlled systems. You may also manage device backups and iCloud data through your Apple ID, iCloud, and device settings where available. If your device is offline, low on storage, restricted by system settings, or affected by Apple service availability, deletion, backup, restore, or synchronization behavior may not complete immediately or may not behave as expected. 11. Apple diagnostics Lunvarg does not use third-party crash logging or third-party diagnostics tools. Apple may provide developers with crash or diagnostic information if you have enabled sharing diagnostics with app developers in your Apple device settings. This is controlled by Apple and your device settings. 12. User responsibility for observation, calculations, storage, and backups Lunvarg is designed for lunar observation planning, photography planning, and educational exploration. The App should not be used as the sole source for safety-critical, navigation-critical, aviation, maritime, emergency, legal, financial, medical, scientific publication, professional observatory, or mission-critical decisions. Moon visibility, Moon position, Moonrise, Moonset, eclipse candidate estimates, photography timing, dark sky windows, lunar alerts, compass direction, altitude, azimuth, and related calculations may be affected by many factors, including but not limited to: * Weather * Clouds * Fog or atmospheric conditions * Terrain * Buildings or local obstructions * Light pollution * Device location accuracy * Denied or limited location permission * Device compass behavior * Time zone settings * Calendar settings * Operating system behavior * Battery state * Notification settings * Apple service availability * Mathematical approximation limits You are responsible for verifying important information through official, professional, or local sources when accuracy is important. The App should not be used as the sole storage location for important, sensitive, legal, financial, medical, academic, business-critical, emergency, or mission-critical information. You are responsible for keeping separate backups of important information outside the App. Insufficient device storage or iCloud storage may prevent saving, backup, restore, deletion, or synchronization. You are responsible for maintaining sufficient device storage, iCloud storage, Apple ID availability, and appropriate device settings. 13. Your privacy rights Depending on your location, especially if you are in the EU, EEA, or UK, you may have the right to: * Access your personal data * Correct inaccurate data * Delete your data * Restrict processing * Object to processing * Request data portability * Withdraw consent * Lodge a complaint with a data protection authority Because most data is stored locally or through Apple-controlled systems, you can manage much of it directly on your device, inside the App, through iOS Settings, or through Apple ID/iCloud settings. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data through the App, contact us so we can help remove it where possible. 15. Security Lunvarg uses Apple system frameworks and local device storage mechanisms where possible. StoreKit, App Store purchases, Apple ID, Apple diagnostics, device backup, iCloud backup, location permission, photo picker access, and notification permission are handled through Apple’s infrastructure and device-level systems. No electronic storage or transmission method is completely secure, but the App is designed to minimize data collection, avoid tracking, avoid unnecessary third-party services, and rely on Apple system frameworks where possible. 16. Changes to this Privacy Policy We may update this Privacy Policy when the App changes, new features are added, platform behavior changes, Apple requirements change, or legal requirements change.
